Praying for God to protect

King David, a strong man of God, found strength in praying for God’s protection. Many of his Bible prayers in the book of Psalms provide a pattern of praying for God to protect us in frightening times that threaten our safety.Psalm 140:1, 7 – a prayer of David
from the King James Version
Deliver me, O Lord,
from the evil man:
preserve me
from the violent man;
O God the Lord,
the strength of my salvation,
thou hast covered my head
in the day of battle.

Deliver me from evil, Lord!
Protect me from violence.
O Lord, my God,
my mighty Savior,
You have covered
my head for the battle.

Jacob prays for a blessing

After being away for a couple of decades, Jacob heads home with two companies of peoples and a massive amount of livestock. Clearly, God has blessed him! So why does he pray to be blessed?

Genesis 32:26 – a prayer of Jacob
And he (a man of God or angel)said, Let me go, for the day breaketh.
And he (Jacob) said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

A Psalm to pray, to sing

Psalm 18:1-2

A psalm of David:
The servant of the Lord
sang this song to the Lord
on the day the Lord rescued him
from his enemies.

I love you, my Lord
You are my strength.
my rock,
my fortress,
my deliverer.

You are solid rock
in Whom
I find protection.
You are my shield,
the power Who saves me.

You are my
safe place.
